ABSTRACT

CHAPTER2 Goal Setting Using Metrics and Jury Testing This chapter is concerned with what the criteria for product sound should be and how they are to be evaluated. Historically, all such criteria have been based on personal interviews and structured listening tests. To the extent possible, the engineers and scientists concerned have attempted to correlate human judgments with physical measurements and algorithms. Such effects have been successful for many sounds, but there are many other judgments for which metrics are not reliable. In such cases, we have to retain jury testing as the ultimate tool.
