ABSTRACT
As indicated in the last chapter, certain mechanisms used in products tend to produce a motion that is nearly independent of the load presented to them. This is a natural part of the design of gears and cams because they are shaped to achieve a particular type of motion in their follower. Although not totally independent of load, their prescription as “sources of prescribed motion” is a useful classification.
