ABSTRACT
Presenting the strain history for each bolt demonstrates that most of the interaction is local (at least for the pipe flanges tested) in that only the two adjacent bolts have an appreciable effect. It is suggested that this is true in general, but one should be careful to extrapolate data of this type to other structures and bolting configurations.
