ABSTRACT

This chapter gives a brief explanation of the electrochemical theory of corrosion and galvanic cells, discusses some of the types of corrosion, and offers ways of controlling corrosion. More detailed theory can be obtained from Jones [1], Fontana [2], and the National Association of Corrosion Engineers (NACE) [3]. Because of its impact on economics and safety, corrosion and its control must be understood. Some of the estimated costs (in the billions of dollars) and other economic concerns are discussed by Jones [1] and Fontana [2].
