ABSTRACT

The most common lung diseases in pregnancy are asthma, pulmonary embolism, acute bronchitis, pneumonia, and tuberculosis. This chapter covers pulmonary problems with particular reference to their impact on pregnancy and vice versa. Most of the risk of mater nal pulmonary disease to the fetus is related to maternal hypoxemia. We do not cover in depth aspects of pulmonary diseases that are dealt with in other chapters, but we do cover issues in diagnosis and management that are relevant to the pregnant woman.
