ABSTRACT

Management of Tracheobronchial Obstruction with Airway Stents Placement of an endobronchial or tracheal prosthesis for airway obstruction was attempted in the early stages of interventional bronchoscopy. However, the results with the rubber or metal devices were disappointing. The development of silicone material permitted the construction of much more acceptable stents. Some of these also combine various metal scaffolding and others consist of a metal base covered with polyurethane or polyvinyl. The fact that we now have access to a large variety of these stents proves that none of them is ideal or useful in all situations.
