Z Holding his airway open, put your ear to his mouth. Listen, feel, and look for breathing for no more than 10 seconds. If you have any doubt about whether breathing is normal, assume that it is not.
Agonal breathing (occasional gasps, slow, laboured, or noisy breathing) is common in the early stages of cardiac arrest and should not be mistaken for a sign of life.
