ABSTRACT

Nitrate Reduction Nitrogen is one of the important nutrients for plant growth and development. In natural conditions, the form of nitrogen uptake is mainly determined by its abundance and accessibility, which makes nitrate (NO3

–) and ammonium (NH4

+) become the major sources of inorganic nitrogen taken up by higher plants. In well aerated agriculture soils, nitrate is the main form of available inorganic nitrogen utilized by higher plants (Sasakawa and Yamamoto, 1978). Nitrate is easy to be lost through drainage water and denitrification and low efficiency in fertilization (Huang et al. 2000).
