ABSTRACT

Erasistratus (304–250 BC) was a Greek physician and anatomist. He founded a medical school in Alexandria. He was the first to describe the valves of the heart and to realise that the heart was a pump. He was also interested in learning. According to Erasistratus, ‘people who are unused to learning learn little, and that slowly, while those more accustomed do much more and do it more easily’ ( 2 ).
