According to Swale Vincent, ‘The formal lecture without demonstrations is a pitiable anachronism. It is a survival from the days when there were no textbooks’ ( 2 ). The physician in this image was lecturing several hundred years before Vincent, and yet shows his understanding of the importance of demonstrations.
