ABSTRACT

This image is the trade-card of Nathaniel Longbottom, a supplier of skeletons, in St Thomas’s Street, Southwark. The trade-card was likely to have been printed in the mid-eighteenth century – although the exact date is not known. The card claims that Longbottom will supply skeletons of different sizes and both sexes and that they are of good colour and accurately articulated. It is likely that he was supplying them to medical students and local medical schools; however, the card also promises that they can be packed safe either for sea or land carriage.
