ABSTRACT

This is another example of technology-enhanced learning from the early twentieth century. This particular device has not stood the test of time. It is worth reflecting on this apparatus and indeed on all new technologies as to whether it is the education that is driving the technology or the technology that is driving the education. New technology is certainly seductive and there is always the temptation to make an extra investment to have the latest high technology and high-fidelity equipment. More thought should probably be given to the cost and value of such investment ( 2 ). Value can be increased by ensuring better usage and by aligning institutional investments in technology with the curriculum of the institution.
