ABSTRACT
In this chapter, consideration is given to some of the basic methods of analysis in the study of rotating machinery. In some respects, this is similar to the study of structural dynamics, but there is an important complicating factor: the variation of both the system and the forcing with shaft rotational speed. This is an obvious prerequisite to the material which follows in subsequent chapters.
