ABSTRACT

Thus far, we have discussed critical and essential approaches to continual improvement with the goal of doing the right job on time the first time. In this chapter, we address some additional methodologies that organizations may follow toward this end. They are (1) production system, (2) supplier request for engineering approval (SREA), (3) warranty, (4) Weibull distribution, (5) failure mode and effect analysis (FMEA), (6) Six Sigma, (7) systems engineering, and (8) value engineering. We do not want to imply that these are not essential to continual improvement (CI); however, an organization may choose many other methodologies on the way to improvement. The reason we have included these topics as separate is that in most organizations they are part of the topics that we have chosen to discuss at length. On the other hand, they are important enough for any organization to be aware of their existence and apply them as necessary.
