ABSTRACT

During the past decade there has been a rapid growth in the number of companies who buy-in brazed assemblies from well-established, and knowledgeable companies whose business can best be described as sub-contract brazing specialists. As this business area expanded it became increasingly the case that the suppliers of the sub-contract service were asked by their customers to confirm that the operators that were doing the work were accredited to a recognised standard. It was from this simple request that a whole new and vibrant and standardisation procedure has been developed. This chapter of the book discusses the fine detail of the accreditation procedure since, like many of the factors that one encounters when dealing with the brazing process not everything runs as smoothly as it might, and to set things in order has been a lengthy and very time-consuming business. It is because of this factor, and because readers of this book might be working at either the providing or receiving end of a sub-contract brazing service they will be interested to see what is actually involved in the accreditation process.
