ABSTRACT

The preferred method for controlling an infectious disease is to vaccinate as many individuals as possible with a vaccine that is safe, fully protective and provides immunity that does not wane. While some vaccines, such as the measles vaccine, come close to this ideal, most are less effective. Modeling needs to allow for vaccines that are not fully protective.
