ABSTRACT

Abstract: Pigments are insoluble in water and solvent and possess no affinity for any fibre. Pigments are not viable for exhaust dyeing because of the absence of substantivity rather they are applied alongwith a binder when the latter reacts with fibre and traps pigment in between. Pigments are suitable for all fibres and blends. However, absence of both migration and diffusion develops one-sided coloured effect when printed. Dyeing is carried out with viscous pad liquor consisting of kerosene based emulsion thickener. Dyeings become stiffer due to presence of binder film; however no finishes or postwashes are imparted thereby cutting down cost of dyeing.
