ABSTRACT

The results of study of 53 samples of barley and 36 samples of oat from the collection of N.I. Vavilov Research Institute of Plant Industry, Bol’shaya Morskaya St., St. Petersburg, 190000, Russia according to their reaction on salinity stress in the laboratory experiments are presented. The paper discusses the expediency of the application of the ratio of shoot and root mass, beside of the characters of seeds laboratory germination capacity, for the evaluation of samples. All samples were classified into three groups according to the salt resistance basing on the results of the extensive study

taking into account the display of characters. Salt resistant samples can be used as initial material for adaptive selection.
