ABSTRACT

As highlighted in the rst section of this book, safe practice is a core professional responsibility for those who prescribe, monitor, dispense, or administer medications. It is widely accepted that education plays a crucial role in fostering and sustaining the expertise required to do this. When we use the term “education,” we refer not only to formal pedagogical activities, but also to learning that takes place during the course of everyday activities within the multiple workplaces where health care professionals perform their duties. Exploration of both these learning processes in terms of their virtues and deciencies offers insights into how professionals’ approaches to medication use could be inuenced.
