ABSTRACT

Two governing equations are required, one for the unconfmed zone and one for the confined wne. Both are derived by combining Darcy's Law with the principle of conservation of mass in a radial coordinate system (Moench and Prickett, 1972)

• For the unconfined zone

(17.1)

• For the confined zone

r~R (17.2)

where h1 and h2 are the heads in the unconfined and confined ones, respectively, r is the radial distance from the pumping well, S1 and S2 are the storativities of the unconfmed zone and confined zone, respectively, K and mare the hydraulic conductivity and saturated thickness of the aquifer, and t is time.
