ABSTRACT

Tank closure is characterized by a series of sequential decisions, each requiring knowledge of both options and consequences so as to avoid the cost and delays potentially associated with misjudgment. The purpose of this book is to provide the information necessary to make informed and effective choices; the purpose of this chapter is to present an overview of the closure process, highlighting particular issues and sequences that need to be resolved or ar ranged early in the closure effort. Some of these issues will be discussed in more detail in later chapters.
