ABSTRACT

The purpose of this chapter is to develop some perspective of the national occurrence of radon in the drinking water originating from groundwater sources. This will be done by discussing the results of a current major study conducted by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. EPA) and by comparing the results to previous experience. Because of the relationship between radon, radium, and uranium, the discussion will include the latter two as well. The survey is named the National lnorganics and Radionuclides Survey (NIRS).
