ABSTRACT

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (U.S. EPA) drinking water regulations currently do not contain a maximum contaminant level (MCL) for uranium. However, sometime during 1990, the EPA will be proposing new regulations for radionuclides in drinking water and has indicated that these regulations will contain a proposed MCL for uranium. Presently, the EPA is reviewing the health effects data, and depending on the outcome of this review, the MCL could be as low as 10 pCi/L or as high as 40-50 pCi/L. 1 Recently, the State of California has proposed a MCL of 20 pCi/L.
