ABSTRACT

APLASIA CUTIS CONGENITA e condition is rare, aecting 3/10,000 newborns. e scalp is involved in most cases with a round or oval patch of variable size of hair loss, characterized by atrophic skin. A defect in the underlying bone may be associated. At dermoscopy, the patch has a translucent appearance and shows an absence of follicular openings. Hair roots can be visible through the skin at the periphery of the patch. Dermoscopy is very useful for distinguishing aplasia cutis from sebaceous nevus in newborns.
