ABSTRACT

The above-mentioned methods utilize tools which are discussed later in the chapter based on belt certications.

15.2 Establishing baseline The purpose of establishing baseline is to quantify the performance level of “little y” that was zeroed down in measure. The main objectives are to determine and document the baseline overall process performance and the baseline potential process capability. The baseline results should consist of Z-scores (both long-term and short-term) for the baseline process and also the condence interval estimates. It is nothing but the targets and specications identied in the previous measure phase. Hence, this step of the project produces estimates of baseline (i.e., current) process performance for the process output(s). Condence intervals for those estimates are determined to bind their imprecision. Additional process mapping also documents the conguration of the process that

generates the output of interest. We require greater detailed understanding of the process operations and ow than was needed at the outset of the project.
