ABSTRACT

One way to clarify the scope and scale of the project is to explicitly state what the project includes and what it excludes. The “four W’s and one H” are a useful guide in considering includes/excludes (Table 29.6):

• What-product line, production equipment • Where-geographic region, storage condition, site • When-stage of the benets driven procurement (BDP), steps of the production process • Who-channel, customer segment • How-shipment method, order entry type

Placing an element in the “excludes” category does not mean that it cannot be used for comparison or to benchmark an “included” category. Excluded elements may always be addressed in a follow-up “translation” or transfer project (Table 29.7).
