ABSTRACT
The cost of the cusum analysis was minimal as it made use of existing data; but herein lies both the strength and the weakness of the technique. The 50 batches examined were not produced in order to facilitate learning about the process. They were simply produced under normal operating conditions. We may be much more successful in gaining a better understanding of the production process if we examine the results of a planned experiment.
