ABSTRACT

Effective , in-compliance operation requires flue gas monitoring in addition to measuring combustion feed rates, ash rates, temperatures and pressures. Figure 12.1 shows an incineration system as an example of a system with detailed monitoring requirements. This figure depicts a rotary kiln incinerator. In the feed, we measure basic chemical composi tion, ash, Btu content, metals, chloride, and weigh the total material being charged. For the auxiliary fuel, we measure the flow of the fuel. If it is a liquid or gas of known constant composition, this is very easy. It becomes more complex for solid fuels and requires mass and chemical data. It may be necessary to analyze the combustion air to be sure that we do not put any other pollutants in with the combustion air itself. The “F” symbols in the figure are for flow rate. “T” is temperature, and “P” and “AP” are pressure values.
