ABSTRACT

Th ere are a number of fuel systems that industry has used in the past for burning coal. The types that historically have been used are: • hand stokers • under-feed stokers • traveling grate stokers • chain grate stokers • spreader stokers • vibragrate stokers • reciprocating grate stokers • dump grate stokers • cyclone furnaces • pulverized coal

It is important to note that these types of coal systems and the size of these systems are quite different (see Table 3.1 and Figure 3.1). Table 3.1 lists area heat release based on ft2 of grate area and volumetric heat release based on ft3 of burner volume.
