ABSTRACT

Project success is dependent on availability of a suitable site or the ability to overcome the drawbacks of a less than optimal site. The siting process provides information to identify, compare, and estimate costs of developing alternative sites at an early stage of the project. Not only will it enhance preparation of plans and drawings, but equally important is its ability to assist developers in avoiding impractical or very costly sites or at least select one with full knowledge of the consequences. Finally, site evaluation initiates the process of developing a project budget since much of the information assembled during siting relates to costs for land, construction needs, or operating parameters.
