ABSTRACT

Generally, neurotic disorders in childhood do not lead to neurosis in later life. Neuroses in children are more common in males, but are dominant in females after adolescence.

1. B – Agoraphobia Agoraphobia is an example of a phobic anxiety disorder. The other two types are social phobias and specific phobias. Phobias usually relate to specific situations or triggers. There is anxiety even in anticipation of the trigger (anticipatory anxiety), and avoidance behaviour ensues. The fear in a phobia is out of proportion to the actual risk, but is not relieved by rational reasoning. Avoidance behaviour is reinforced because it temporarily relieves the anxiety.
