ABSTRACT

DEFINITION AND CLINICAL FEATURES A dermal nodule comprised of an interwoven mesh of histocytes and collagen, with overlying epidermal hyperplasia. These common lesions usually affect the lower limbs of young adults (361) and are thought to represent an abnormal reaction to insect bites. They may be mildly pruritic. They present as a firm violaceouspigmented papule or nodule with a characteristic peripheral ring of hyperpigmentation. Palpation reveals a larger dermal component than expected on initial inspection, with puckering overlying hyperkeratotic, pigmented epidermis.
