ABSTRACT

Although dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) was rst synthesized by the Russian scientist Alexander Zaytsev in 1866, it took another century for its pharmacotherapeutic properties to be discovered by Jacob et  al.,1 beginning in 1964. Discovering the pharmacotherapeutic activities of DMSO is a lesson in how good science works, involving a keen observation, the hypothesis that was formulated, testing, and the conclusion.
