ABSTRACT

Bacteria play a very important part, both good and bad, in mushroom production. Many types of bacteria are present in compost, and many of them play an important role in all stages of compost production; they are also involved in the initiation of mushrooms. Pseudomonas putida has been shown to be important in mushroom initiation and is present in high concentrations in casing. Other bacteria in the casing have been implicated in the rapid degradation of fungicides.
