ABSTRACT

The basic nonlinear gasdynamic equation is linearized for a purely subsonic or supersonic flow under the assumption of small perturbation. But in the transonic range, this basic equation still remains nonlinear in character under the small perturbation theory. Kaplan [3] has studied the transonic flow past a wave-shaped wall of small amplitude extending to infinity with the help of the Prandtl-Busemann small perturbation method. Haldar [2] has also investigated the same problem by means of the decomposition method, which avoids simplifications. We discuss this problem in detail in this chapter.
