ABSTRACT
DEFINITION AND CLINICAL FEATURES Pruritus (itching) is a frequent complaint among elderly patients. It can present from mild to very severe, with the latter often being very debilitating. Pruritus has many causes, and workup and treatment should be guided by the history and physical examination. A complete history, including the location, duration, and severity of the itching, will be helpful in targeting the examination.
