ABSTRACT
INTRODUCTION Glaucoma is traditionally defined as an elevation of the IOP beyond that which is compatible with the health of the eye. Elevation of IOP may arise from a variety of causes and, thus, is a final common pathway for many disease processes. Therefore, glaucoma is a sign and not the basic disease it self and every effort should be made to understand why the IOP is elevated.
