ABSTRACT

There is no doubt that the successful examination of a child is more an art than a science, but in order to develop the skills, the same basic knowledge as applies to adults needs to be thoroughly learned. Children get bored quickly and are unable to describe symptoms accurately (if at all). Therefore, one must seize the opportunities as they arise, and not expect an orderly approach. Nevertheless, you need to have an orderly scheme in your mind so as not to miss any signs. The whole process of history-taking and examination need not be stressful if you follow some of the tips given in this chapter.
