ABSTRACT

Pediatric rheumatology is an evolving subspecialty of pediatrics. In 1992, pediatric rheumatology subspecialty certification was offered by the American Board of Pediatrics. With advances in basic science and clinical investigation and collaboration, newer illnesses such as the autoinflammatory syndromes have been added to the pediatric rheumatology repertoire. Advances in the treatments of adult rheumatic diseases are being translated to children with comparable conditions. Pediatric rheumatology is an ever-expanding field.
