ABSTRACT
Definition Bacterial meningitis causes acute inflammation of the leptomeninges, with an onset of signs and symptoms over the course of hours to days. The median duration of symptoms at the time of clinical presentation is only 24 hours, and tends to not be greater than 2 weeks.
