ABSTRACT

Definition Autonomic neuropathy is a disorder of the autonomic nervous system.

Anatomy The autonomic nervous system consists of two major divisions that have complementary function: sympathetic and parasympathetic (718). There are nicotinic cholinergic receptors for the pre-ganglionic receptors, adrenergic receptors for sympathetic organs, and muscarinic cholinergic end-organ receptors for the parasympathetic organs and sympathetic receptors in the skin.
