ABSTRACT

Simply put, the Weibull distribution describes failure rate as a function of time. It has served the technical community for over 50 years; the chemical industry, refineries, the Pentagon, NASA, and so on, have been the beneficiaries. Thus, it is a key chapter in this book and is understandably one of the longest. The chapter not only reviews the traditional material in the literature on the Weibull distribution, but also includes illustrative examples concerned with (see also previous chapter) reliability relations plus series and parallel systems. Recent efforts of the author to improve on Weibull’s work are also detailed.
