ABSTRACT

If no history of penicillin allergy: Benzylpenicillin IV, or IM if vein cannot be accessed: 1200 mg, or amoxicillin 1 g by mouth If penicillin cannot be given (e.g. due to allergy to penicillin), consider cefotaxime or ceftriaxone IV, or IM if a vein cannot be accessed: 1.0 g With azithromycin 500 mg or moxifloxacin 400 mg ONCE

Condition No allergy to penicillins Allergy to penicillins (or alternative regimes)

Respiratory tract infections

Pharyngitis Penicillin V 500 mg q6h for 10 days Clarithromycin 250-500 mg q12h for 5 days Penicillin V 1g q12h for 10 days Erythromycin 250-500 mg q12h for 7-10 days Penicillin 1 g q6h for 10 days (if severe) Azithromycin 500 mg day 1, and the 250 mg

q24h for 4 days.
