5.1 INTRODUCTION One of the strengths of the Linux platform is that much of it has been developed by the open-source community. Not only does this mean that the operating system itself is available for free, it also means that a lot of the application soware for Linux is free. We brie y explore the open-source community and what it means to obtain the source code in Chapter 13. is chapter though is dedicated to examining some of the most popular and useful Linux applications soware.
