ABSTRACT

Nature is the source of inspiration to design nanomagnetic particles, which magnetized the attention of scores of material scientists. The magnetic gizmo, which can act like an artificial robot plays an imperative role in synaphic targeting of the miscreant cell with the aid of antibody. When a magnetic field is applied, all such targeted cells get fried up due to hyperthermal property. The history of magnetism in medicine is very ancient and is credited with amazing anecdotes about the pioneering work of physicians and physicists. The first medical use of magnetite powder was reported in the form of Lauha Bhasma or Iron powder in Ayurveda by great seer of all ages, Acharya Charak, writer of the compendium Charak Samhita. One of the most important concerns of Ayurveda is Noble Metal Bhasma as well as decoctions and extractions of various medicinal herbs. It is a matter of adoration that the ancient teachers were not oblivious of Nanoparticles in the form of Bhasma. This ancient Indian wisdom was then disseminated to the whole world, giving rise to different branches of medicine like Allopathy, Homeopathy, Unani, and Siddha. European physician and philosopher, Avicenna in the 10th century A. D. recommended the antidote for accidental ingestion of rust in the form of one magnetite particle taken along with milk. This magnetite was exploited for the attraction of poisonous inert iron and enhancing its excretion through the intestine. Similar modus operandi was used for the removal of iron oxide embedded in the eye by the force of magnetization.
