ABSTRACT

Economic importance The root knot nematodes are major pests of vegetable crops and estimated losses world-wide range from 20-40% on crops such as tomato and eggplant. Local yield losses can be even higher, especially where high soil populations of the nematode occur. If a virulent isolate of Meloidogyne is present in the soil, yield losses can be expected if the susceptible vegetable crop is grown too frequently on the same soil.
