ABSTRACT
ABSTRACT This chapter deals with some of the practical aspects of fabrication, erection, and service performance of welded structures, which should be considered by the designer. Initial planning of layout, locations of joints, and make up of sections, as well as weldability aspects of the proposed steel grade, have been discussed. Other relevant areas deliberated are load conditions, selection of joint types, weld size vis-à-vis cost, distortion, choice of edge preparation, and ease of fabrication and erection.
