ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT Guidelines for design of butt weld and fillet weld are covered. Strength of full penetration and partial penetration butt welds, effective length, and limitations of intermittent butt welds are discussed. Types of fillet welds, methods for computation of size, effective throat thickness, effective length, and strength as also step-by-step procedure for design of fillet welded joints have been deliberated in detail. Other topics related to fillet weld covered are end return, lap joints, combined stresses, bending and compression stresses, and intermittent fillet welds. Analyses of two typical fillet welded eccentric connections are provided at the end.
