ERTILIZER PLACEMENT refers to the practice of positioning fertilizers in a local area, generally near the plants, as contrasted to applying them more or less evenly (broadcast) to the entire soil. Fertilizer placement is by no
means new. According to Semple (1928), localized placement of fertilizers was practiced in ancient Mediterranean agriculture.
