ABSTRACT
N CONTRAST TO FERTILIZERS, the beneficial effects of which usually can be associated with the nutrients they supply, the beneficial effects of liming materials are not so clearly and easily accounted for. The varying and gen-
erally undetermined causes of the beneficial effects of liming are responsible in part for the fact that liming materials usually are termed soil amendments instead of fertilizers.
